Meet Dr. Jacob Hernandez DC MS

I was once a builder. I understood structure, design, tolerances, and physics. I spent years crafting stairways and doorways, but I never expected to be where I am today. As I found out—the universe had very different plans for me. My first child was born with a severe musculoskeletal condition that will impact the rest of her daily life. At the time, as a builder, there was nothing I could do for her. I was limited to what her providers told us and what they expected. That was not good enough for me. I had to know everything I could about her condition and how to help her—but doing so meant completely reinventing my life and career. With the unwavering support of my wife, I quit my career and returned to school, ferociously learning everything I could about the human body, movement, and how to improve it. What led me to chiropractic was simple: it’s a manual therapy career that affords me the most freedom to practice and help people directly. I began my higher education at Central Oregon Community College, then transferred to Eastern Oregon University, where I majored in Exercise Science. From there, I pursued my passion for manual therapy at the University of Western States in Portland, OR, the second-oldest chiropractic college in the world, earning my Doctorate in Chiropractic. Following my doctorate, I spent an additional year completing a Master’s in Rehabilitation Science at Lasell University, a 175 year old institution in the Boston, MA area, further deepening my expertise in human movement, injury recovery, and patient-centered care. I have treated thousands of patients and worked alongside the leading chiropractors who are the authority on chiropractic standard of care. My clinical experience spans injury and sports rehabilitation as well as family-focused chiropractic care, allowing me to work with a wide range of patients and conditions. With my daughter, they may use the word “disabled,” but I have never seen it that way. All I see is her ability. That perspective guides how I see my patients today. I see their ability—to overcome challenges, to move better, and to live without pain (or at least manage it effectively). My job is to guide them on this journey of recovery and renewal. My Education: Bachelor of Science Human Biology University of Western States Portland, OR Master of Science Rehabilitation Science Lasell University Newton, MA Doctorate of Chiropractic University of Western States Portland, OR
Yajaira Hernandez Office Manager

Most folks know her as Yaya, and she will likely be your first point of contact at High Desert Spine. From the moment you reach out to our clinic, she plays a key role in making sure your experience is smooth, organized, and welcoming. Whether she’s helping you schedule an appointment, answering billing questions, or guiding you through paperwork, Yaya brings a calm, knowledgeable, and friendly presence to every interaction. With over 10 years of experience in healthcare and office administration, she has developed a deep understanding of the day-to-day operations that keep a clinic running efficiently. She manages front desk coordination, patient communication, and administrative workflows with attention to detail and consistency, helping ensure that both patients and providers stay on track. Her ability to anticipate needs, solve problems quickly, and keep things organized is a major part of what allows the clinic to function at a high level. Beyond her professional experience, Yaya brings a genuine care for people into everything she does. She understands that navigating healthcare—whether scheduling, insurance, or billing—can sometimes feel overwhelming, and she works hard to make the process as clear and stress-free as possible for every patient. Outside of the clinic, Yaya is just as dedicated at home. She homeschools our two children and serves as the backbone of our family’s support system, balancing responsibilities with patience and commitment. The same level of care and discipline she brings to her family is reflected in the way she supports the clinic and its patients.
